It’s funny how it can take a long time for a good product to be accepted by the angling community.

Nick Palmer of Real Ideas has pretty much perfected the Clever Claw with the MkII version and it really is a useful pole fishing tool. It’s especially so if you regularly fish long or have a bad back, but is a very good product for making any kind of pole fishing easier.

The Claw acts as your rear pole support and the upward pressure of the pole butt locks the teeth together and keeps them locked, while the hooked ‘arm’ has been designed to keep the pole in place even in a strong cross wind.

You can use the Claw with a front ‘V’ rest or a ‘bump’ or ‘spray’ bar as the front support, and you can have as much or as little of the pole butt behind the Claw as you like – it makes no difference.

It’s easy to tease and work the float and the bait and even miss bites without disengaging, but once you are into a fish, freeing up the pole is a simple case of leaning down on the pole butt with your elbow – the Claw springs free.

You can fish with the pole across your knee resting on it for striking, or straight out in front of you and even with your hands completely free at 16m if you like, and you can also use the Claw for ‘rod in the air’ ro

The Mk2 Clever Claw – How it works

A Pole and Rod support, with a unique and patented operation, making long pole holding much easier and more efficient for anglers at all levels. Eliminates the fatigue associated with long pole fishing whilst giving the advantage of being hands free.  Simply turn onto the pole butt, push together and let the pole rise onto the underside of the claw. Upward pressure keeps the Claw securely locked allowing it to take the weight.  When you want to release your pole, push down on the butt and a stainless steel spring ‘instantly’ disengages the Clever Claw arm which then rotates through 180 degrees leaving the pole or rod completely free.

No other support on the market can hold poles and rods securely yet has the ability to let the angler have control immediately. No pushing the pole forward or ducking down of the pole butt as you do when using a ‘fixed’ support.

We want to make it clear that the MK2 Clever Claw DOES NOT release every time you strike.

It DOES NOT release when you lift the pole with your hands to strike or ‘lift and drop’ the bait with your knee.

It DOES only release when YOU WANT IT TO.

So ONLY release once you have hooked a fish i.e. when you see the elastic come out then release claw with a quick dab with your arm or hand on the pole butt and back with the pole.

So when fishing long you can lift the pole tip as high as you like to check if the bait is on as the upward pressure of the pole butt is still keeping the claw engaged.

Even lift and ‘flick the rig over’ to attract a bite when fishing shallow. A popular technique when fishing ‘up in the water’.

There are many advantages that will become obvious with use.  Most are shown on the demonstration DVD that you get FREE with the Mk2 Clever Claw.

The sloping run up to the back of the teeth make it totally user friendly. When the arm hits the forward stop the claw arm vertually engages itself. So simple to use.

All levels of angler are now starting to appreciate the advantages for a range of uses.
