About
Design Engineer, Nick Palmer, from Rutland is a keen angler and CEO of Real Ideas.
Since 1994, Real Ideas worked on a number of angling ideas that are becoming commonplace throughout angling. Products range from auto disengaging anti-reverse mechanisms on Okuma reels called 3 PAR (three position anti-reverse), Prologic Quick Release Connectors with the most recent being the Mk2 version of the Clever Claw pole and rod support; all simple and effective designs with cutting edge innovation for the demanding angler.
Versatile
The versatility of the Mk2 CC is just one of its many strong points with uses for long pole (16mtrs plus with ease) down the a few sections. Many anglers, that do not fish pole, choose the rods set ups for feeder fishing, especially ‘the method’, bagging waggler and ‘rod held high’ on an extending bankstick for river fishing to keep as much line as possible out the flow.
‘Laying on’ techniques
When used in conjunction with a front support it is ideal for any laying on technique. It comes into its own when waiting longer for bites in the slower colder conditions or a popular method in deep flowing water such as ‘flat/lollipop float’ fishiing and a technique when others fail which is the ‘pole feeder’ method.
These ‘laying on’ methods do require the pole to be kept still yet you will need control quickly and without hinderance when you get a bite. The Clever Claw wins hands down every time over the ‘fixed’ types of pole supports due to the totally unhindered and instant release of the pole.
‘Up in the water’
Many have found it invaluable in the warmer weather for fishing long and ‘up in the water’ as it takes the full weight of the pole whilst leaving both hands completely free making ‘spraying’ feed to the pole tip easier and accurately. Taking the full weight of the upper body and elbow means anglers for any age or sex can easily for long periods without the fear of strains and possible injury. Because you do not suffer the same fatigue you can feed constantly and regularly throughout the entire match or session if you wish.
Many anglers have told me that getting fatigued causes them to ‘give the inside a go’ line in order to give them a break from holding at full length. Feeding can also suffer as fatigue sets in as it becomes easier and less strenuous NOT to feed.
Bites coming ‘slower’
As we move into the colder months the Mk2 CC really comes into its own. Bites generally tend to come a lot slower so the holds can be much longer and with the water often clear the fish push can right across to the island or a feature.
As we have said using the Mk2 Clever Claw for these long holds takes all the weight completely off the upper body. This will really be noticed and appreciated as both hands are free to pour that welcoming cup of coffee or in my case a drop of hot vegetable broth.
Feel free to add comments or ask any questions that come to mind about how the Clever Claw Mk2 will give advantages for your style of fishing.
